Today's Verse:
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. -1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 ESV

Jim's Notes
The Reformation Study Bible offers this note on Isaiah 56:1–66:24: "These prophecies are addressed to the exiles returned from Babylon before the rebuilding of the temple in 520 b.c. (64:8–12). They still suffer from idolatry, hypocrisy and indifference. Isaiah prophesies concerning their responsibilities toward the coming glorious kingdom and the certainty of its arrival." In 1 Thessalonians 4, Paul explains what a life that is please to God is and assures the believers in the coming of the Lord.
