In Exodus 13 note that the first born belonged to the Lord and God leads his people by cloud and fire. In Exodus 14 we have the crossing of the Red Sea; and in chapter 15 Moses sings. Note also that in Exodus 15:22 the people begin to complain. They will be a whinny bunch.
